Lois Bloom

Lois Bloom is a United States Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of New York.  At the time of her appointment in 2001, she was Senior Staff Attorney in the Pro Se Office of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

 Judge Bloom earned her B.A. degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1981, and her J.D. degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1985.

 Following her law school graduation she was a staff attorney in New York at the West Side SRO Law Project representing indigent tenants in Housing Court.  She then served for thirteen years as head of the Pro Se Office of the Southern District of New York.  There, she won the Second Circuit Merit Award three times.

 Judge Bloom has taught at Columbia and New York Law Schools, and served as a longstanding member of the Pro Bono and Legal Services Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
