Ramon E. Reyes, Jr. is a United States Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of
New York. At the time of his appointment in February 2006, he was an Assistant
United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, serving as a Deputy
Chief of Civil Appeals.
Judge Reyes graduated from Cornell University in 1988 with a BS in Public
Affairs Management. He earned his JD from Brooklyn Law School in 1992, and
an LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 1993. While at Brooklyn
Law School, he served as Editor in Chief of the Brooklyn Journal of International
Law, was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, and was a Fellow in the
Center for the Study of International Business Law.
Prior to becoming an Assistant United States Attorney, Judge Reyes was an
associate in the New York office of O’Melveny & Myers LLP, a law clerk to the
Honorable David G. Trager, United States District Judge for the Eastern District
of New York, and a legislative attorney for the New York City Council, where he
served as Counsel to the Committee on Youth Services, the Sub-Committee on
Youth Violence, and the Daly-Hale Advisory Commission to Speaker Peter
Vallone. From 2000-2003 he served as a member of the United States Magistrate
Judge Merit Selection Panel for the Eastern District of New York. Judge Reyes
has published several law review articles on intellectual property, and
international law and litigation issues.
Judge Reyes is a Trustee of the Federal Bar Council, and has participated in the
FBC’s Inn of Court since its inception in 2000. He is also a member of the
Association of Judges of Hispanic Heritage, the Hispanic National Bar
Association, and the Puerto Rican Bar Association.
