EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Honorable Sterling Johnson, Jr., presides over more than 500 civil and criminal cases in the Eastern District of New York. In addition, Judge Johnson currently serves as a Commissioner of the
United States Sentencing Commission, the agency charged with promulgating the United States Sentencing Guidelines.
Prior to his federal appointment, Judge Johnson was an attorney for 30 years, specializing in drug enforcement and the prosecution of narcotics cases. As Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York, Judge Johnson supervised assistant district attorneys and investigators responsible for the preparation and prosecution of more than 7000 criminal cases. Judge Johnson has been a guest lecturer at many American universities and law schools, as well as in various countries throughout the world.

Establish sentencing policies and practices for the federal judiciary. Advise and assist congress and the executive branch in the development of effective crime policies.
Special Narcotics Prosecutor New York City 1975 to 1991
Investigated and prosecuted narcotic and narcotic-related cases. Supervised over 100 attorneys and 50 support staff.
Executive Liaison Officer Drug Enforcement Administration 1974 to 1975
Monitored overseas enforcement programs as Special Assistant to the Administrator.
Captain, United States Naval Reserve Judge Advocate General 1974 to 1991
Executive Director Civilian Complaint Review Board New York City Police Department 1970 to 1974
Investigated allegations of misconduct against members of the New York
City Police Department and referred substantiated cases to the appropriate District Attorney or Police Commissioner. Supervised 50 investigators and 75 support staff.
Assistant United States Attorney Southern District of New York 1967 to 1970
Investigated and prosecuted criminal matters referred by federal enforcement agencies. Prepared appeals that were to be argued before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

As a patrolman, detective, and sergeant, responsibilities included investigations in the Patrol Division, Juvenile Aid Bureau, Youth Squad, Detective Division, and Narcotics Division.
