You have been appointed to serve as an arbitrator pursuant to the provisions of the Local Arbitration Rules for the Eastern District of New York. The appointment shall
remain in effect until the termination of the arbitration proceeding. A complete copy of these rules may be downloaded from our website.
Please note the following points regarding the arbitration process:
- The Federal Rules of Evidence shall be used as guides to the admissibility of evidence. Relevance and efficiency shall be the primary considerations.
- The arbitrator shall have the power to issue subpoenas for the attendance of witnesses and the production of documentary evidence in accord with Rule 45 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
- The arbitration hearing may proceed in the absence of any party who, after due notice, fails to appear, but an award shall not be based solely upon the absence of any party.
- A party may transcribe or record the proceeding at his/her own expense. Such a recording or transcript must be furnished to any other party, unless, the parties otherwise agree.
- The arbitration panel shall utilize the form of Award adopted by the Court. No findings of fact or conclusions of law shall be issued, nor will any dissent be noted.

MAXIMUM COMPENSATION FOR AN ARBITRATOR IS $250.00 PER CASE
Note: Arbitrators shall not be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.
When referring to your assigned case please identify it by its caption, docket number and assigned judge.
***If parties have stipulated to 2 arbitrators, maximum compensation is $150.00 per case.
If parties have stipulated to 3 arbitrators, maximum compensation is $100.00 per case.
