In order to protect public health and the health of and safety of all applicants, Court personnel, and visitors to the Court, and reduce travel, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York is hereby suspending all naturalization proceedings within this District for a period of 45 days from the date of this Order, or until further order of the Court. Please see the Administrative Order for details.


An Administrative Order effective March 16, 2020, regarding the status of the courthouses in the District as well as the status of jury trials, deadlines, the rights of defendants under the Speedy Trial Act, effects on initial appearances, arraignments, detention, and bail review, and the status of offices within the District. Please read the order for specifics regarding duration of the order and its effects.


The Centers for Disease Control having advised people to take precautions in light of the COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) outbreak, and noting that the best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus, it is hereby ORDERED, effective immediately, that the following persons shall not enter any courthouse in the Eastern District of New York... All detainees at the listed institutions are directed to be screened for body temperature. See the Administrative Order for details.


The Board of Judges for the Eastern District of New York hereby appoints a Merit Selection Panel to review the applications

of candidates for three United States Magistrate Judge vacancies, each for an eight (8)-year term as follows: one current vacancy and one upcoming vacancy each in Brooklyn, N.Y., and one current vacancy in Central Islip, N.Y.

In Re APPOINTMENT OF A UNITED STATES MAGISTRATE JUDGE MERIT SELECTION PANEL

 

Pursuant to the authority conferred by 28 U.S.C. Sections 631, et seq., and the further authority granted by the Judicial Conference of the United States, the Board of Judges for the Eastern District of New York hereby appoints a Merit Selection Panel to consider the reappointment of U.S. Magistrate Judge Vera M. Scanlon for a new eight (8)-year term. Magistrate Judge Scanlon's current term is due to expire on August 14, 2020.
