Regular Attorney Admissions Instructions

1. Option One: for attorneys in good standing of the bar of one of the following:
     ● State of New York; or
     ● United States District Court in Connecticut and the bar of the State of Connecticut; or
     ● United States District Court in Vermont and the bar of the State of Vermont

                  a. Complete the Petition for Attorney Admission on our web site. (To access the application, please use IE8, IE9, IE10, or Mozilla Firefox browser.
                       The Petition contains a choice of hearing date; you must choose a hearing date at least ten (10) days in advance of the date upon which you submit your Petition with the Clerk of Court.
                  b. Print and sign a copy of the Petition;
                  c. Submit the Petition electronically on our web site; and
                  d. File with the EDNY Clerk of Court at least ten (10) days prior to hearing (unless for good cause shown, the Judge shortens the time:
                      (1) The printed original Petition;
                      (2) An original Certificate of Good Standing from each court in which the application is admitted, which has been issued within thirty (30) days of filing;
                      (3) An original Sponsor Affidavit of an attorney of this Court who has known the applicant for at least one year, stating when the affiant was admitted to practice in this Court, how long and under what circumstances the attorney has known the applicant,
                           and what the attorney knows of the applicant’s character and experience at the bar; and
                  e. Appear on the hearing date, with the sponsoring attorney, who shall move the admission of the applicant. If petition is granted, the applicant shall

                      (1) Pay the fee of $201.00;
                      (2) Take the oath of office; and
                      (3) Sign the roll of attorneys.

2. Option Two: for attorneys in good standing of the bar of the
    ● Southern District of New York

                  a. File with the EDNY Clerk of Court
                      (1) An original Certificate of Good Standing from the Southern District, which has been issued within thirty(30) days of filing; and
                      (2) An original affidavit in support of reciprocity admission by the applicant stating
                           (a) whether the applicant has ever been convicted of a felony,
                           (b) whether the applicant has ever been censured, suspended, disbarred or denied admission or readmission by any court,
                           (c) whether there are any disciplinary proceedings presently against the applicant and
                           (d) the facts and circumstances surrounding any affirmative responses to (a) through (c). The Court retains the right to deny admission based upon the content fo the affidavit in response to item (2).
                     (3) The fee of $201.00.
                 b. Take the oath of office and sign the roll in the EDNY Clerk’s Office.
