  • e-Juror Why did the system lock me out?
    The system is designed to allow 3 logins, after failure to gain access on the third attempt, the system will lock you out. You must completely log out of e Juror, give it a few minutes, and try again. The system only allows 20 minutes to complete the questionnaire, if it goes beyond that time, you will have to start again.
  • How can I get a list of cases an attorney is on?

    Login to CM/ECF with your pacer account.

    Select Query

    Enter the attorneys last name and first name and select (type) attorney. 

    Press Run Query.

  • How can I view pdfs from a NEF on a MAC?

    To view pdf's from the NEF:

    1. Launch TinkerTool
    2) Go to the Safari Menu
    3) Select Disable native support for display of PDF documents
    4) Relaunch Safari

  • How do I add a Arbitrator to a Case?

    1. Docket the event ( Selection of Arbitrator)

    2, On the screen, Search for a party screen, then add the party to with the role type of Arbitrator.

    3. Update the party from pro se No to pro se not allowed to electronically file.

    4. Add contact information,  such as office name, address, city, state, zip, phone/ fax and email address.

    5.  Check off Show this address on the docket sheet.

     

  • How do I add a Mediator to a Case?

    1. Docket the event ( Selection of Mediator)

    2, On the screen, Search for a party screen, then add the party to with the role type of Mediator.

    3. Update the party from pro se No to pro se not allowed to electronically file.

    4. Add contact information,  such as office name, address, city, state, zip, phone/ fax and email address.

    5.  Check off Show this address on the docket sheet.

     

  • How do I add parties to case I am opening?

    See pages (8 and the Appendix) of the attorney case opening manual for that information.

  • How do I correct an error to a pdf that will not upload into ECF with this error message - Document is malformed or contains code which may cause an external action (such as launching an application). This PDF document cannot be accepted.

  • How do I file a fully briefed/bundled motion?
    Select the motion event, select yourself( the attorney) making the filing. Attach all of the pdfs, add or select all appropriate descriptions for the attachments.
    IE.
    Plaintiffs Affidavit in Opposition
    Defendants Memorandum in Support
     
    Select "Fully Briefed" from the motion pretext dropdown list, then add "on "behalf of all parties" in the docket text window.
     
    Your entry will look something like this...
    Fully Briefed Motion for Summary Judgment filed on behalf of all parties by....(Attorney Name)
    (Attachments: #1 Plaintiffs Affidavit in Opposition, #2 Defendants Memorandum in Support)
     
  • How do I file a sealed answer to a complaint that is not sealed?
    • Docket the Answer to Complaint event attach ( with a redacted pdf(s))
    • Docket the Sealed Answer as (1 - Sealed Docket Entry and Document  - to be used......and Unredacted Document).
     
  • How do I go about requesting a refund of fees paid electronically on CM/ECF?

    For refunds or duplicate payments please do ONE of the following:

    File a Refund Motion on your firm’s letterhead requesting a refund and include both payment confirmations.
    OR
    Mail a letter on your firm’s letterhead requesting a refund and include both payment confirmations. Send the request to: U.S. District Court, EDNY, 225 Cadman Plaza E, Brooklyn NY 11201, Attention: Intake/Refunds.

  • How do I go about requesting attorney admission date?

  • How do I know which EDNY courthouse has my case file?

    There are two Eastern District Courthouse locations: Brooklyn and Central Islip. Case files are available at the courthouse where the Judge assigned to the case is located. Call Intake Section for name of Judge OR check the Docket Sheet on Pacer (to register for an account, go to website at http://pacer.psc.uscourts.gov or call the Pacer Service Center at (800)676-6856 or (210)301-6440.)

    Even if the Judge listed in Central Islip, there is a chance that the file is in Brooklyn. It is best to call the CI courthouse before traveling.

  • How do I know which fee status to select?

    There are seven choices in this drop-down menu. However, only four of them will be used by attorneys during the electronic case-opening process. 

    If you plan to pay filing fees online with a credit card through pay.gov at the time of filing, select “pd (Fee Paid)”; 

    if you are filing an action on behalf of the United States, select “none (no fee required)”; 

    if you are filing an action in which the fee is waived by statute, select “wv (Fee Waived)”; 

    if you are filing a motion to proceed informa pauperis, select “IFP Pending”.

  • How do I know which office code to select?
    The “Office” drop-down menu provides choices to past and present divisions of the Eastern District.
    • Brooklyn
    • Central Islip
     
    [DO NOT select Hauppauge or Uniondale]

    The appropriate division for your case is determined by the Court’s Division of Business Rule. (Local Rule 50.1). You may not choose a division based on your personal preference; you must select the division based on your answers to Division of Business questions on Page 2 of the Civil Cover Sheet.

    • If you answered (1) “yes” to questions 1 or 2(a) OR (2) “no” to question 2(b) and defendant resides in Nassau or Suffolk County, then select Central Islip from the drop-down menu.
    • For all other cases - select Brooklyn.

    Once you have made your selections for “Office” and “Case Type”; click “Next”.
