Ramon E. Reyes, Jr. was appointed as a United States District Judge by President Joseph R. Biden on November 13, 2023, to a seat vacated by Kiyo A. Matsumoto, and entered service on November 14, 2023. From February 13, 2006, to the time of his appointment as a District Judge, Judge Reyes served as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of New York.
Judge Reyes obtained his B.S. degree from Cornell University in 1988, his J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1992, and his LL.M. degree from New York University School of Law in 1993. While at Brooklyn Law School, Judge Reyes served as Editor in Chief of the Brooklyn Journal of International Law, was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, and was a Fellow in the Center for the Study of International Business Law.
Prior to his appointment to the federal bench, Judge Reyes was an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, where he served as Deputy Chief of Civil Appeals. Judge Reyes previously was a litigation associate in the New York office of O’Melveny & Myers LLP, a law clerk to the late-Honorable David G. Trager, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of New York, and a legislative attorney for the New York City Council.
Throughout his career, Judge Reyes has been involved with and served on the boards of many bar associations and nonprofit organizations, including the Board of Trustees of Brooklyn Law School, the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District Chapter, the Federal Magistrate Judges Association, the Board of Trustees of the Federal Bar Council, the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel for the Eastern District of New York, and the American Bar Association’s Coalition on Racial and Ethnic Justice.
Judge Reyes was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1966.
