Judge Sanket J. Bulsara

Sanket J. Bulsara was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden to serve as a District Judge for the Eastern District of New York and entered service in December 2024. From 2017 to 2024, he served as a federal magistrate judge on the Court. Upon that appointment, he became the first South Asian American federal judge to serve on any court in the Second Circuit.  

Judge Bulsara received an A.B. degree magna cum laude in 1998 from Harvard College, and a J.D. degree cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2002. He is a graduate of Edgemont High School. After graduating from law school, Judge Bulsara was a law clerk to Judge John G. Koeltl of the Southern District of New York. Thereafter, he was an associate at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr in New York, where he worked from 2005 to 2015, including as a partner of the firm.

In 2015, he became the Deputy General Counsel for Appellate Litigation, Adjudication, and Enforcement at the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC. Immediately prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Bulsara served as Acting General Counsel of the SEC.

Among other committee responsibilities, Judge Bulsara serves as co-chair of the EDNY and SDNY Joint Local Rules Committee, and on the Court’s Criminal Justice Act Committee. He previously served on Judicial Conference Committee on the Administration of the Magistrate Judges System. Judge Bulsara is an Adjunct Professor of Law at St. John’s Law School where he teaches Securities Litigation, and a guest instructor at the Harvard Law School Trial Advocacy Workshop. He is a member of the Lawyers Advisory Council of the New York City Urban Debate League.
